A Fall Drive Through the Big Horns

With the car fixed and the brakes in mostly working order (I had to re-attach the vacuum hose just before we arrived at the wedding), we finished our weekend in Wyoming with some fantastic weather. The night of the wedding was perfect – despite being at a dude ranch on the edge of the Absarokas, the temps were in the 70s and there was barely a cloud in the sky. The ranch was a really neat place. The reception was held in a pretty old cabin, where they had a funky bluegrass trio play for the dance.

I think this picture just about sums it up. Colorful paper lamp shades, icicle lights, elk trophies, wagon wheel chandelier…

Anyway, the drive home today was perfect. Temps were in the 50s and 60s when we left Riverton, but they got as high as 95 in the badlands east of Worland. Then we got up into the Big Horns. It was too beautiful to stay cooped up in the car, so we got out and hiked around a bit.

Beautiful, no? Oh yeah, and the scenery is pretty good, too.

I think we’re still a week or so away from the peak fall colors, but it was still neat to see some streaks of yellow here and there.

Back home in Deadwood now. They’re working on the windows and exterior paint, and we’ve found some pretty cool stuff. As soon as I get my photos sorted out I’ll post about it.
